The West Virginia Board of Directors held their first special event on May 10th in the form of a Cornhole Tournament at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston. Nearly $5,000 was raised for RFB&D to aid in its mission to help students with print disabilities.

The fine folks at Appalachian Power Park and the West Virginia Power minor league baseball team allowed us to use their facilities and promoted the tournament for us. WSAZ-TV in Huntington, WV created and aired a public service announcement about the tournament. Home Depot of Barboursville, WV donated material for the cornhole boards. Others providing financial support were: Angle Repair and Calibration Services; Bailey, Joseph & Slotnick, PLLC; JJJ Foodmart; Premier Financial Bancorp, Inc.; Walker Ventures, Inc.; Champion Industries and Chesapeake Energy.

Are we making progress in West Virginia? Three years ago, RFB&D served less than two percent of students needing our help. Today we serve thirteen percent. While that is certainly great news, only one in eight students are getting the help that could make a difference in their lives. Only tireless efforts and unending enthusiasm will get us to where we need to be.

Want to help support RFB&D? Why not start either a Learning Through Listening club or Local Action Committee in your local area to raise funds for our cause and to contact your local school district about using our services? Call me at 304-208-0600 and lets talk about how you could get involved. Our students need you now!

With the students in mind,
