1. POSITION: Regional Development Director
DEPARTMENT: Regional Unit of the Virginias & Carolinas
PURPOSE OF POSITION: To generate financial
resources and community support for programs and operations of the Regional
Unit of the Virginias and Carolinas Unit of RFB&D (Recording for the
Blind & Dyslexic). This person will be responsible for developing
and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy including corporate,
foundation and individual solicitations and new funding initiatives.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement annual fundraising plan, including strategies
and objectives to reach yearly funding goals and a budge for managing
all aspects of the Regional Unit's fundraising program, and present
it to the Executive Director.
- Conduct cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities for
current individual, corporate and foundation donors, including telephoning,
visiting, and writing proposals, reports, and other correspondence.
- Identify, cultivate and solicit prospective individual, corporate
and foundation donors, including researching, developing strategies,
telephoning, visiting, and writing proposals and other correspondence.
- Manage Board involvement in fundraising and work with members and
with Regional Executive Director to develop new contracts and programs
that support revenue goals; research and recommend potential Board and
Committee members.
- Identify and recommend new sources of funding, including events, sponsorship
opportunities, and other programs; works with appropriate staff to develop
new sources of funding.
- Work with headquarters' financial development department staff on
appropriate Unit/headquarters joint solicitation.
- Responsible for management of Raiser's Edge database, donor/gift record-keeping
and gift acknowledgement.
- Represent Unit at local and national fundraising meetings.
Perform special assignments at request of Executive Director.
SKILLS AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Bachelors Degree
- 5-7 years of successful fundraising/grant writing
- Management experience in an educational or nonprofit organization
- Enthusiastic self-starter who can work independently as well as in
a team.

2. POSITION: Development Director
LOCATION: Santa Barbara Unit, Goleta, CA
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
PURPOSE OF POSITION: To generate financial
support for the programs, operations and operating "reserve"
for the Santa Barbara Unit of RFB&D through a comprehensive program
of solicitations to individuals, community organizations, foundations,
businesses and corporations; and through the development and implementation
of new funding initiatives (e.g. planned giving, Benovon).
PRIMARY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Develop and implement annual fundraising plan under the direction
of the Executive Director. Plan will include strategies and objectives
to reach yearly funding goals and a budget for managing all aspects
of the Unit's fundraising program as appropriate to the Unit territories
(Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Kern Counties).

Conduct cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities for
current (individuals, community organizations, foundations, businesses
and corporations) donors, including telephoning, visiting, organizing
special social events and writing proposals, reports, and other correspondence.

Identify, cultivate and solicit prospective donors (individuals,

Work with Executive Director, Board of Directors, Board Fundraising
& Events Committee, Honorary Advisory Committee and volunteers
to develop new contacts and programs for revenue generation. Works
with Executive Director, Board Chairman, Board Fundraising & Events
Committee Chair and Honorary Advisory Committee Co-Chairs to research
and recommend potential Board and Committee members.

Develops and directs annual "appeal" campaign (2-3 per
year), fundraising activities for annual Record-A-Thon; produces Learning
Through Listening annual luncheon and monthly orientation sessions.

Identify and recommend new sources of funding, including events,
sponsorship opportunities, and other programs; works with ED, Board
members, Fundraising Committee and others to develop new sources of
funding.

Oversees the work of development consultants and the Development
Associate for the Unit.

Oversees and works with Executive Director, Board, staff and volunteers
in publication of semi-annual Newsletter.

Work with headquarters' financial development department staff on
appropriate unit/headquarters joint solicitation and other development
matters.

Provide backup support for gift record-keeping and acknowledgement
in absence of office administrator and development associate; build
donor database; update and purge as needed.

Represent unit at local and national fundraising meetings.

Perform special assignments at request of Executive Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: We are looking
for a seasoned veteran with 3 or more years of experience in a professional
fundraising and development environment or related field (e.g. marketing,
sales); computer literacy including donor database management (preferably
Raiser's Edge). Excellent oral and written skills, outgoing, creative,
resourceful, self-starter with ability to handle multiple tasks and meet
deadlines. Strong organizational, management and people skills are essential.
Must have car and be able to visit current and potential donors. Professional

3. POSITION: Vice President,
Corporate Communications
LOCATION: National Headquarters, Princeton, NJ
REPORTS TO: Chief of Staff
PURPOSE OF POSITION: To set strategy and
lead the execution of organizational communications through the creation
of primary messages around national image, visibility, media coverage,
financial development support, and external relations; and secondary messages
throughout the organization at the functional level.
PRIMARY POSITION OBJECTIVES
- Develops and implements a strategic communications plan relative to
RFB&D's core messaging that accurately and consistently identifies
RFB&D, and effectively communicates its unique mission and the Learning
Through Listening family of products and services among prospective
donors, members and other stakeholders.
STANDARD: A communications plan is
collaboratively developed and executed that addresses messaging at
both the strategic level and the functional levels.
- Builds and maintains close, collaborative relationships with other
departments within the organization to ensure the alignment and integration
of communications strategies, tactics and messages.
STANDARD: RFB&D's communications
are consistent in message and design among all functional areas. Effective
communications are delivered within the agreed-upon timeframe and
budget.
- Provides leadership of, and participates in, a cross-functional communications
coordinating team.
STANDARD: The communications coordinating
team collaborates on the development and implementation of a consolidated
communications plan that maps directly to the functional department
plans.
- Serves as the liaison to the communications committee of the national
board of directors.

4. POSITION: Payroll Specialist
Part-Time
LOCATION: National Headquarters, Princeton, NJ
DEPARTMENT: Finance and Administration
PURPOSE OF POSITION: To assist in payroll
processing for HQ and Units.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with processing payroll by entering hours worked, tracking
paid time off (PTO), administering tax filing through ADP for Federal
Income Tax, FICA, State Income Tax as well as SDI and SUI; and ensuring
all payroll deductions are remitted to the appropriate agencies.

5. POSITION: Assistant Vice President,
Corporation and Foundation Giving
LOCATION: National Headquarters, Princeton, NJ
DEPARTMENT: Financial Development
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Reporting to the Chief
Development Officer, the AVP - Corporation and Foundation Giving is responsible
for increasing the visibility of RFB&D in the corporation and foundation
fundraising at the national and local unit level.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive proactive development
plan focused on expanding and enhancing corporate and foundation relationships
and increasing philanthropic support.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward corporations, corporate foundations,
and private foundations.
- Establish long-term partnerships and strengthen existing relationships
with the corporate and foundation sector, as well as other key communities,
that will result in funding for the immediate and long-term goals of
the organization.
- Advance RFB&D's interests by researching and identifying new sources
of support, proactively seeking opportunities to generate new proposals
based on corporate guidelines and interests, and build strong communication
ties.
- Supervise budget and support staff.
- Identify key people connected with RFB&D within corporations/foundation
and review corporate profiles that suggest potential relationships because
of common interests.
- Work directly with volunteers, administrators, and national and unit
staff on corporate and foundation areas of interest, cultivation of
corporate and foundations special requirements in the development and
presentation of proposals.
- Develop highly competitive proposals for corporate and foundation
prospects and leverage diverse corporate and foundation goals and preferences
in conjunction with organization goals.
- Maintain a rigorous schedule of contacts with corporate and foundation
representatives, creating moves management plans related to them, compelling
presentations and comprehensive fundraising proposals.
- Monitor proposal deadlines, prepare and edit proposals, and manage
proposal submissions
- Maintain high quality stewardship process for active corporate and
foundation prospects and donors. Ensure that stewardship and reporting
requirements are met to sustain successful partnerships by maintaining
detailed records of solicitation activities.
SKILLS AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree; Certified Fund Raising
Executive (CFRE) preferred.

6. POSITION: Regional Account
Director (2 positions: East & West Coast)
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Responsible for the
development and performance of all sales activities within assigned region.
Working in conjunction with individual units, is responsible for achievement
of maximum placement of RFB&D memberships and programs. Establishes
and implements programs to expand membership within assigned territory
and contributes to the development of sales training and educational programs
for individual units. Acts as coach and mentor for unit outreach personnel.
Acts as a liaison between units and headquarters locations.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for achievement of Headquarters and Unit territory membership
goals.
- Develops a sales plan and sales strategy for the assigned market that
enables the timely realization of these objectives.
- Utilizes a consultative approach to sales and program placement to
insure acceptance, utilization and retention.
- Creates and conducts proposal presentations and RFP responses
- Conducts regular coaching and development sessions with Unit Outreach
Personnel to motivate and develop consultative selling skills.
- Utilizes internal databases to record and schedule activities and
to maintain records of all pricing, sales and activities to insure accurate
documentation of contact status.
- Provides timely feedback to management.
- Acts as a liaison between individual Units and Headquarters to insure
the timely gathering and exchange of information and market intelligence.
- Leverages best practices within Unit and Headquarter territories.
- Demonstrates the ability to interact and cooperate with contacts,
individual Units, and all company employees.
- Adheres to all policies, procedures and business ethics codes.
SKILLS AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Proven track record of consistently achieving or surpassing quantitative
sales quotas/goals.
- Minimum 3-5 years sales experience; experience with educational sales
a plus.
- Experience with account management & needs-based consultative
selling techniques.

7. POSITION: Membership Account
Associate, Illinois Unit
LOCATION: Illinois Unit
REPORTS TO: Director of Sales & Marketing
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Working in conjunction
with the Sales & Marketing Director and appropriate Illinois unit
outreach personnel, implement sales and internet techniques to generate
new institutional memberships for the regional market centers.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Utilize Pivotal to identify public K-12 institutional prospects in
Illinois market centers
- Identify public and private colleges in same geographic area
- Implement appropriate telephone and internet sales approaches and
techniques to build school accounts throughout the state
- Communicate with prospective clients and the outreach staff to be
certain that all prospects receive timely, in-person follow-up.
- Work with HQ and Unit to identify and initiate local partnerships
to build awareness and revenue in the market center
- Monitor and control sales expenses.

8. POSITION: Regional
Member Services Coordinator, New England Regional Unit, Cambridge, MA
LOCATION: Cambridge, MA
REPORTS TO: Regional Director of Educational Outreach
PURPOSE OF POSITION: To strengthen educational
outreach activities of the New England Regional Unit through a comprehensive
program of contact and follow up with individual and institutional members,
implementation of activities to promote the use of RFB&D's services
and management of research and other back office activities to assist
funding efforts for educational outreach.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establishes and implements schedule of contacts with existing individual
and school members to ensure timely renewal of memberships; provides
technical assistance to members requiring assistance with renewal process.
- In consultation with Outreach staff, schedules trainings for new institutional
members.
- Makes welcome telephone calls to new individual members to alert them
to local presence of RFB&D and offer assistance in utilizing the
program.
- Monitors borrowing activities of new and institutional members and
provides monthly reports to Regional Director of Educational Outreach.
- Initiates contact with individual and institutional members who are
not using RFB&D services to offer technical assistance; process
book orders for members as requested.
- Develops and implements year-round program of regular mailings to
individual and institutional members, including budget reminders, monthly
book lists, back to school reminders, summer reading notices, and other
programs designed to stimulate book borrowing activities and membership
renewals.
- Creates files and timesheets for grant-funded projects; maintains
reporting schedule; provides administrative support for pre- and post
- survey of students.
- Provides administrative support to fund raising activities for outreach
by providing directors of development with requested data on membership
and service utilization; gathering and maintaining file of testimonial
letters from individual members and schools; and assisting staff in
developing member profiles.
- Provides administrative support for special outreach projects, including
but not limited to contacting members to request legislative advocacy
with regards to state funding, contact with appropriate schools regarding
use of RFB&D services for MCAS, and others as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in General or Special Education or Marketing strongly preferred;
and familiarity with education a plus.
- Proficient computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office and

9. POSITION: Outreach Coordinator,
New England Regional Unit, Cambridge, MA
LOCATION: Cambridge, MA
REPORTS TO: Regional Director of Educational Outreach
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Implements all aspects
of a Federally funded project targeting public school students in Greater
Boston who are at risk for entering the juvenile justice system and who
will benefit from the use of audio textbooks. Collaborates with Chapter
outreach staff to expand RFB&D's Learning Through Listening® (LTL)
audio textbook programs at school sites targeted by grant project and
to new school sites in these communities.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Increases utilization of RFB&D's LTL programs among students at
70 selected schools in Boston, Cambridge, Somerville and Chelsea participating
in project funded through the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency
Prevention.
- Implements all required data collection activities at OJJDP school
sites to ensure reporting requirements are satisfied, including pre
and post-utilization surveys of students, teacher questionnaires and
other instruments; prepares data information for required reports.
- Establishes and maintains contact with local Weed and Seed programs
and Department of Youth Services offices to increase awareness of audio
textbooks as resource for at-risk youth.
- Under direction of Regional of Educational Outreach, identifies new
school sites in Boston, Cambridge, Somerville and Chelsea for potential
program expansion and implements LTL programs at those sites.
- Maintains ongoing customer service relations with schools that are
RFB&D LTL members in Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea and Somerville;
provides additional teacher training as needed and provides ongoing
technical support to schools.
- Assists Regional Outreach Director in increasing individual LTL memberships
and providing support to individual members in Suffolk County, Somerville
and Cambridge.
- Develop and implement an all day LTL Workshop to provide teachers
at member schools instruction on access and use of the LTL website.
- Provides information and support to other Chapter staff and Board
members regarding the Suffolk County outreach program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- College degree required; degree in General or Special Education or
human services, with familiarity with public school classroom settings
preferred; knowledge of learning disabilities helpful
- Experience working within juvenile justice population highly desirable
- Experience and familiarity with research and data gathering strongly
preferred
- Bilingual (Spanish) speaker strongly preferred

10. POSITION: Regional Development

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the Executive
Director's overall guidance and support, work with the Board of Directors,
and appropriate Board committees for the identification, cultivation,

South Carolina
LOCATION: South Carolina
REPORTS TO: Regional Director of Administration
PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide leadership
and coordination of the operations, budget, fund raising, and public relations
for the State. To support the Regional Unit's mission, policies, procedures
and goals by implementing said policies on the state level and to work
towards furthering RFB&D as One Organization.
PRIMARY POSITION OBJECTIVES:

Responsible for identifying and cultivating fund raising opportunities
across the State. In collaboration with the Regional Director of Administration
and Regional Development Staff, focus on soliciting corporate, foundation,
trust and individual donors within the state. Stewardship policy and
procedures are followed in a timely fashion. Proactively increase
fundraising opportunities across the State.
STANDARD: Annual budget line items are met; fund raising information
is monitored and tracked in an organized manner; stewardship and grant
policy and procedures are followed, the Regional Director of Administration
is actively involved in and fully informed of fund raising activities.
State efforts are expanded across full territory in a planned organized
endeavor.

Ensure prudent fiscal management by developing and maintaining yearly
operating and capital budgets. Develop a solid understanding of the
state's financial situation; ability to interpret data from reports
and adjust operational spending to maintain a balanced budget.
STANDARD: Budget preparation demonstrates an understanding of unit
and state priorities; state operates within approved annual budget.
Monthly review of state financials conducted with Regional Director
of Administration, adjustments made when and where necessary. Implement
prudent risk analysis and adjust operations to reflect financial implications.

12. POSITION: Human Resources Director

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Human Resource Development
PURPOSE OF POSITION: To develop and implement
equitable human resource policies, procedures, compensation and benefit
plans.
PRIMARY POSITION OBJECTIVES:

Plans and implements monthly objectives and annual goals for human
resources department by analyzing organizational needs and have a
positive impact on the organization.

Manage the functions of the HR department by coordinating the activities
of the HR staff to ensure the Human Resources needs of the organization
are met.

Ensures human resource policies and procedures are developed, implemented
and properly enforced throughout the organization by maintaining the
Employee Handbook and Unit Handbook; scrutinizing policies for their
legality; communicating policies directly to managers and staff both
at HQ and the units.

Recruit qualified applicants by developing ads, maintaining documentation,
reviewing resumes, screening and interviewing applicants, administering
employment testing, recommending candidates, and ensuring compliance
with AAP/EEO requirements.

Manages compensation and benefits by participating in and analyzing
national and local surveys of comparable organizations; reviewing
salary grades and salaries to ensure they are equitable and competitive;
analyzing and recommending benefit plans that are comprehensive and
competitive; reviewing healthcare costs and containing them when possible;
working with consultants and attending educational workshops when
appropriate.

Compile, analyze, and develop compensation programs by participating
in and analyzing national and local compensation surveys of comparable
organizations, reviewing salary ranges to ensure they are equitable
and making recommendations for adjustment where appropriate.

Assist in all areas of employee relations by responding to employee
needs regarding personnel policies, services, special events, communications,
and community relations.
- Manages resources by developing and controlling departmental budget;

PURPOSE OF POSITION: To support the Development
Director, Corporate and Foundation Giving in securing funding from corporations,
foundations and organizations.
PRIMARY POSITION OBJECTIVES:

Administer the grant renewal program. This involves maintaining the
grant calendar, preparing standard proposals (both hard copy and on-line),
gathering appropriate proposal attachments, compiling, photocopying
and mailing proposal packages, making phone calls to funders and to
unit staff as appropriate and preparing follow-up reports to funders.

Conduct research on corporate, foundation and organization donors
and prospects utilizing on-line and CD-based directories and websites.

Process all acknowledgement letters for corporate, foundation and
organization donors and handle all appropriate follow-up.
-
Maintain corporate, foundation and organization records in Raiser's
Edge by entering and updating information, researching information
when data is missing. Also enter proposal and action and information
originating from contact reports and other internal correspondence.

Generate routine corporate, foundation and organization reports from
Raiser's Edge, as authorized and requested.
-
Handle travel arrangements for staff members, as requested.
-
Draft and process correspondence, such as specialized acknowledgement
letters, cover letters for proposals, requests for annual reports,
guidelines, etc.

Perform other appropriate administrative and supportive duties as
needed. Handles all administrative duties for Director of Corporate
& Foundation Gifts.
SKILLS AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's Degree, plus 2-4 years non-profit office experience
- Familiarity with office systems and equipment

PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide leadership,
management and coordination of the operations, budget, outreach, fundraising,
program development, recruitment, public relations and communications
for the Unit.

and managing a donor database along with all information related to
individual appeals.

Oversees the operation of the unit by developing and implementing
programs to recruit volunteers for studio operations and supervising
staff members to maintain high levels of production activity and technical
quality.

Develops a competent, productive, and satisfied staff by recruiting,
hiring and supervising staff members; conducting staff performance
appraisals; offering recommendations to the board relative to retention,
promotion, compensation and benefits and job satisfaction issues.

SKILLS AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Minimum of 5-7 years fundraising experience and at least 5 years of
experience in a management capacity.
- Bachelors Degree; CFRE/CAE Certification a plus.
- Proven experience in budgeting and planning, adherence to same, preferably
with a budget of at least $2M.
- Strong relationship building skills with a demonstrated track record
of building bridges in a community.
- Collaborative leadership skills with experience in strategic planning
and institutional development.
- Experience serving on non-profit boards preferred and in a leadership
position that included sourcing capital.

PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide leadership,
coordination, planning and management control of all aspects of the operations
of the Western Region and to guide the expansion of RFB&D services
throughout the Western Region.
PRIMARY POSITION OBJECTIVES:

of RFB&D services throughout the Western Region. Identifies resource
needs and opportunities throughout the Western Region relative to
growth of educational outreach services and financial development
activities.
