Letter to Members About RFB&D's AudioAccessSM

From RFB&D, AudioAccess

September, 2008

Dear Valued RFB&D Member,

RFB&D® is delighted to introduce a new format for our members, downloadable audio textbooks and literature available through new AudioAccessSM. AudioAccess responds to the widespread call from members for an audiobook that does not require specialized DAISY equipment and can work with many lower-cost commercial options. This is a first step in our plan to roll out advanced audiobooks created to take advantage of new technologies that meet the diverse needs of all our members.

Now members have a choice: to receive their high-quality audiobooks through AudioPlus® books on CD with full DAISY navigation, or download them directly to their Microsoft Windows®-based computer through AudioAccess with page level navigation.

RFB&D will continue to work on developing accessible audiobooks to meet the evolving needs of our members. RFB&D is looking forward to launching a downloadable DAISY format in the near future that will play on the latest generation of DAISY players. In addition, our playback device vendors are expanding the range of accessible players compatible with Windows Media® and will play AudioAccess audiobooks. We will keep you updated on products and services as they become available, and you can check www.rfbd.org at any time for the latest product updates.

For 60 years, RFB&D has been the leader in developing and launching the latest technologies in accessible audiobooks. From the first vinyl records, through four-track cassettes, creating DAISY, to the new digital downloadable Windows Media Audio (WMA) format, RFB&D has led the field, and will continue to do so as we remain true to our vision: for all people to have equal access to the printed word.

All of us at RFB&D wish to thank you for being a member. Please feel free to contact Member Services at 800-221-4792 with any questions.

Yours Truly,

Julia Freedman
Senior Vice President, Programs and Services
