Additionally, as an individual member, not only will you be able to order your recorded textbooks independently and have them shipped directly to your house, but you can also take your membership with you as you move from high school to college and beyond.

It's easy to register with RFB&D. Since we are a nonprofit organization, we charge a nominal membership fee to help defray the costs of providing our unique services to as many eligible people as possible. The cost of an individual membership is free, plus a registration fee of $65.

In order to play RFB&D audiobooks, you will need to use specially adapted CD players and software, a Windows®-compatible desktop computer, or portable media player. RFB&D offers a complete line of players, software and accessories for nonprofit sale. Visit the Players and Accessories page for more information.*

Becoming an individual member is easy!

  1. Register Online or complete the Individual Membership Application form

  2. Obtain a signature from a qualified professional in the field of disability services, education, medicine, or psychology and send in the completed certification form. The certifier must be a recognized expert who attests to the physical basis of the visual, perceptual or other physical disability which limits the applicant's use of standard print. (Appropriate certifying experts may differ from disability to disability.)

  3. Complete and sign the Copyright Acknowledgment Form.

    The contents of all RFB&D audiobooks are protected under copyright law. Copying, sharing or redistributing them in any form to any person is strictly prohibited by law and is a violation of publishers' rights and of the terms of RFB&D memberships. All members, both individual and institutional, are required to complete, sign and return a Copyright Acknowledgment Form before their membership application can be processed.

  4. Return the completed application (if you did not register online), applicant disability certification form and Copyright Acknowledgment Form to:

*If you purchased your CD player or software from another source, you will need to purchase a User Authorization Key (UAK) before you can play our books. The cost of the UAK is $10 for CD players and $10-$20 for software, depending on which software product you are using. In addition, you will be required to send your CD player to RFB&D for installation of the UAK. Please contact Member Services at 800-221-4792 if you have any questions regarding the purchase or installation of the User Authorization Key.
