Volunteer Awards

The Robert L. Silber Award goes to a volunteer who has shown dedication, commitment and who has served in extraordinary ways. Robert L. Silbur was a volunteer with RFB&D for over 50 years. In honor of his service and memory, we have named this award after him. This year after the nominations were in, two candidates rose to the top and we couldn’t choose just one. Please join us in honoring Lucy Jolas-Bates and Debbie Weiner as 2008’s Robert L. Silbur Award winners.

Photo of Lucy Jolas-BatesLucy Jolas-Bates has been a volunteer with the Rocky Mountain Unit for 27 years. In those years Lucy has read, directed, edited, marked books and trained other volunteers. There isn't a job Lucy hasn't done. She truly has a heart of service and will do whatever is needed. She has seen the conversion from RFB to RFB&D as well as the transition from analog to digital. We have seen Lucy's family grow, to include her son Christopher, now a second grader. Lucy served on the Board of Directors and continues to be involved on committees, giving of her time and talents. She continues to read and train others to this day. Lucy's passion and dedication to the mission of RFB&D is wonderful. Thank you Lucy for your dedication. Photo of Debbie WeinerDebbie Weiner has been a committed volunteer for almost 40 years. Debbie first heard about RFB from a friend, Betty Fitz. She was hooked from the first day she entered the old studio at Ross Cherry Creek Library. A retired medical researcher, Debbie is a specialty reader in the field of medicine. Debbie served on the Board of Directors for 25 years, serving as Chair for two of those years. Her love for RFB&D has been evident throughout her years of service and the friendships she has made. "I've made so many friends; because of the mutual commitment to RFB, these friendships have lasted and deepened over the years." Debbie, thank you so much for your commitment and bringing others to RFB&D.
