Roles to Play at the Rocky
Mountain Unit
There are
many roles in RFB&D – all filled by generous volunteers. Here
is a brief description of some of the roles.
Reader: This is the voice the borrowers hear on the tapes and
CD’s. Readers are needed in all areas of expertise, as well as
in general areas. Expertise areas include: biology, physiology,
mathematics, physics, chemistry, geology, languages. General areas
include: religion, literature, poetry, philosophy, business.
Director:
The director listens to the reader during the recording sessions
to ensure a quality reading, runs the tape machine and computer,
and documents the materials read.
Bookmarker:
A bookmarker takes a book when it arrives in the studio and creates
a “road map” through it for the readers and directors to follow.
This road map shows where to read footnotes, figures, maps, etc.
Second Copying: Once a book is bookmarked, a second copy of the book is
marked in exactly the same way. This is so the reader and the
director have the same information during a recording session.
Tape Checker: When a tape is fully recorded, a tape checker reviews the
tape for quality and accuracy. Sometimes, the tape checker will
also make any corrections that may be necessary.
Duplicator:
The duplicator takes the checked and corrected reel-to-reel tape
and makes multiple copies onto cassette tapes. These cassette
tapes are then distributed to the borrowers who have requested
them.
Other
roles include, but aren’t limited to, office assistance, outreach,
fundraising, volunteer recognition, various committees and many
more!
Each interested
person is requested to take an orientation. These orientations
are once a month on a Thursday evening. Individual orientations
can be specially scheduled, if needed. Please contact Carol Skoff
at cskoff@rfbd.org or
by calling 303-757-0787.
