Volunteering at the Upland Studio of
Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic

The Upland Studio of RFB&D is looking for people who would like to join our team in the production of audio books. Our volunteers work on the preproduction, production and post production aspects of producing digital books. We work primarily on many subject areas including history, math, sociology/psychology, medical, business and criminal justice. Volunteers are trained in all studio tasks.
We work in two-hour shifts and ask volunteers to commit to two hours per week.

Monday-Tuesday 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Wednesday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Specific abilities needed to volunteer at RFB&D include:

Some experience with computers in a Windows or Mac environment. Manual dexterity to operate a mouse, operate controls, and write legibly on recording logs Ability to lift and carry 10 lbs. and the mobility to move from the booth and get staff when required A sufficient vocabulary to understand the pronunciations and meanings of most of the words appearing in general college textbooks Hearing (or corrected hearing) adequate to communicate with the reader and detect problems on the recording Reliability, punctuality and responsibility. Volunteers must show up on time for recording sessions or call to tell us they won't be in.
