Kentucky Unit Record-A-Thon

Due to Derby Week festivities, the Kentucky Unit conducted its annual Record-A-Thon (RAT) from April 21 thru April 26. The dedicated volunteers exceeded the goal of 180 production hours established for the week by about 10%. Fifty-nine persons worked at least one more than their normal time(s) during the week. The top RAT production hour contributors include the following: Jim Brady (10); Steve Saborsky (9); Nancy Ward (9); Ted Cauble (8); and Bill Shepard (8).

Celebrity participation was down this year due to conflicts with other Derby Festival events that span the two weeks before the big race. Television anchors Susan Sweeney Crum and Rachel Platt participated along with radio personalities Peter Bucalo, Mel Rexroat and Kim Sorise. Their on-air publicity generated numerous queries from potential volunteers.

There were three meals each day and a gala cookout following the last sessions on Saturday morning. The Cookout and extra session attendance provided opportunities for volunteers to meet some new people with whom they do not normally work.
