Gives Grant to Recording for the
Blind & Dyslexic-Los Angeles
Los Angeles, California,
February 11, 2004 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -
Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic-Los Angeles Unit (RFB&D-LA)
is pleased to announce they have received a $5,000 grant from
the Jewish Community Foundation, based in Los Angeles. The grant
will be used to produce a new Educational Outreach instructional
CD. Parents and teachers will use the tool to evaluate whether
RFB&D's Learning Through Listening® programs will be helpful
for their students with print disabilities. "We are pleased
to provide support to Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic to
aid parents and teachers dedicated to teaching children with print
disabilities," says Marvin I. Schotland, President and CEO
of The Foundation. "The Foundation is committed to strengthening
programs focused on education and improving the quality of life
in the Los Angeles community especially for those less fortunate."
RFB&D-LA records audio textbooks for students
from Kindergarten through graduate school and beyond, who have
vision, physical or learning disabilities. RFB&D-LA serves
2,300 students in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, while 500
volunteers in three local studios record the textbooks. RFB&D
was founded in 1948 with the Los Angeles Unit following in 1951.
Their vision is for all people to have equal access to the printed
word.
