RFB&D-LA JOINS MIRAMONTE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY

El Monte, California, March 1, 2001 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –Tomorrow marks the day that schools nationwide will emphasize the need to read by celebrating Read Across America Day. Locally, Miramonte Elementary School in El Monte will be visited by representatives from Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic-Los Angeles Unit (RFB&D-LA).

Stacey Eubank, RFB&D-LA Educational Outreach Director will visit Kimberly Gloria’s second-grade classroom to read out loud "Curious George and the Puppies" by Margaret and H.A. Rey. Eubank will finish the book by playing RFB&D’s taped version that also describes the illustrations for those with vision impairments. Eubank remarks, "Hopefully this will help the students get the message that there is more than one way to read," as RFB&D’s student members learn through listening. The teacher, Mrs. Gloria, wants to create awareness for the children that reading is important for everyone.

Miramonte Elementary will hold an assembly at 9:00 AM for the many special invited guest readers who will then retire to their respective classrooms to read.

RFB&D is a national nonprofit organization that records textbooks for students of all ages with physical, vision or learning disabilities. RFB&D-LA is celebrating its 50th Anniversary.
