Los Angeles, California, May 9, 2003 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - California Governor Gray Davis' wife, Sharon Davis, paid a visit to nonprofit organization Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic®-Los Angeles Unit (RFB&DÒ-LA). The First Lady recorded her recent children's book, The Adventures of Capitol Kitty, today at RFB&D-LA's Hollywood studio located at 5022 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, California 90027. The book will now be prepared to enter RFB&D's national library of audio textbooks housed in Princeton, New Jersey, to join the 93,000 audiobooks already present. Volunteers all over the country have recorded these audio textbooks and other educational materials for students with print-disabilities. As First Lady of California, Mrs. Davis has established a nonprofit program called the Governor's Book Fund. This program establishes monetary grants to provide library books to students in elementary, middle and high schools. Mrs. Davis says, "I envision a California where children attain their dreams. Education is the key." RFB&D-LA is honored to have the First Lady join them in their quest for providing textbooks and other educational materials for students. A national nonprofit organization, RFB&D-LA
serves more than 2,300 students in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties
with vision, physical or learning disabilities. Their Educational
Outreach program is key in bringing awareness to students, teachers
and parents to make sure students with print disabilities receive
equal educational opportunities. For further information, directions
