VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: A PERFECT FIT FOR TEACHERS

YOU Have the Training and Knowledge to Help Kids Soar!

Los Angeles, California, July 19, 2004- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE- Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic -Los Angeles (RFB&D -LA) is in need of volunteers with expertise in math, the sciences, computers, accounting, economics and other school subjects, to record audio textbooks for students with print disabilities. RFB&D is the nation's first and largest nonprofit organization to provide recorded textbooks on CD and four-track cassette to students in kindergarten through graduate school with disabilities such as visual impairment, dyslexia or another physical disability that makes reading challenging or impossible.

RFB&D-LA has three recording production studios located in Hollywood, Reseda and Redondo Beach. The studios have flexible hours Monday through Saturday with evening hours also available. RFB&D-LA's volunteers are asked to make a two-hour commitment per week for at least six months. Reading and directing jobs are available as well as other production jobs such as book marking, copying, quality control and shipping. All aspects of producing audio textbooks are included in the training. Other volunteer jobs are available in the fund development and educational outreach departments.

Good production candidates are detail-oriented, flexible people with basic computer skills, who can also learn to describe maps, charts and graphs; in other words, those who are good at painting word pictures. Your time and talent can help a student with print disabilities compete equally on the educational front by allowing them the independence to study when they want and at their own speed. You have the training and knowledge to help kids soar!

RFB&D is a national nonprofit organization that has been providing audio textbooks to students for more than 50 years. To take an RFB&D's Learning Through Listening® orientation tour, call Maureen at (323) 664-5525x6 and/or visit their website at www.rfbd.org/LA and fill out the easy on-line form.
