Additional media inquiries: RFB&D COMPILES BIBLIOGRAPHY OF RECORDED BOOKS TO HELP PEOPLE WITH PRINT DISABILITIES COPE WITH RECENT TRAGEDIESLos Angeles, CA, October 11, 2001 - Numerous news outlets and organizations have offered advice and resources to help people deal with the tragic events of September 11. Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D) has now compiled a special list of recorded titles to help those with print disabilities and their families through this difficult time. RFB&D, a national nonprofit volunteer organization established in 1948, is the nation's first and largest educational library serving people who cannot effectively read standard print due to a vision impairment, learning disability or physical disability. Nearly 100,000 members, from kindergartners through professionals, use their recorded materials on special four-track cassette tapes and soon, on CD. RFB&D-LA has three local recording studios where volunteers record all the textbooks. The local unit serves 4,300 students in Southern California-2,200 in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties The special bibliography of nearly 150 taped resources was culled from RFB&D's 84,000-title master library at its national headquarters in Princeton, NJ. Topics for adults and juveniles range from grief, to coping and stress, to death and dying. Other topics available related to the tragedy include Islam, tolerance/human rights, terrorism, peace and patriotism. These titles will be useful not only for older students with print disabilities, but also for the parents and educators of younger students.
The list is available on RFB&D's accessible, award-winning
