U.S. SENATOR BARBARA BOXER'S AWARD

Education Award

Los Angeles, California, December 18, 2003 - FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE - Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic-LA (RFB&D-LA)
is very proud to announce that their 50-year volunteer, Los Angeles
resident Maurice Hill, received U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer's Excellence
in Education Award in recognition of significant contributions
to education. Senator Boxer established the Excellence in Education
Awards to recognize and raise awareness of teachers, parents,
businesses, and organizations that are working to make positive
changes in education. Hill has been recording textbooks for students
with print disabilities at the Hollywood studio for 50 years.
Boxer field representative Hattie Stewart presented
the award yesterday at RFB&D-LA's Hollywood studio, on the
Senator's behalf.
"Maurice Hill's 50-year record of service
to RFB&D is amazing and inspirational," Boxer stated.
"Mr. Hill's work helps make it possible for so many children
to receive the best education possible. I applaud Mr. Hill for
devoting his time and energy to helping our young people succeed."
"I would like to thank Senator Boxer for
this award, I really appreciate it," Stated Hill. "I'm
looking forward to another 50 years!"
Hill is the only volunteer in RFB&D's national
history to achieve 50 years of selfless volunteering. He is a
long-time Los Angeles resident who is an actor and writer by trade.
He has performed on stage, television and movies, written for
television and has had several plays published. Hill added, >"Receiving
this award is better than winning an Oscar!"
RFB&D is a national nonprofit organization where
volunteers record audio textbooks for students from Kindergarten
through graduate school and beyond, who have vision, physical
or learning disabilities. RFB&D-LA has 500 volunteers in three
local recording studios located in Hollywood, Reseda and Redondo
Beach. RFB&D-LA serves 2,300 students in Los Angeles and Ventura
Counties.
