Los Angeles, California, December 18, 2003 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic-LA (RFB&D-LA) is very proud to announce that their 50-year volunteer, Los Angeles resident Maurice Hill, received U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer's Excellence in Education Award in recognition of significant contributions to education. Senator Boxer established the Excellence in Education Awards to recognize and raise awareness of teachers, parents, businesses, and organizations that are working to make positive changes in education. Hill has been recording textbooks for students with print disabilities at the Hollywood studio for 50 years.

Boxer field representative Hattie Stewart presented the award yesterday at RFB&D-LA's Hollywood studio, on the Senator's behalf.

"Maurice Hill's 50-year record of service to RFB&D is amazing and inspirational," Boxer stated. "Mr. Hill's work helps make it possible for so many children to receive the best education possible. I applaud Mr. Hill for devoting his time and energy to helping our young people succeed."

"I would like to thank Senator Boxer for this award, I really appreciate it," Stated Hill. "I'm looking forward to another 50 years!"

Hill is the only volunteer in RFB&D's national history to achieve 50 years of selfless volunteering. He is a long-time Los Angeles resident who is an actor and writer by trade. He has performed on stage, television and movies, written for television and has had several plays published. Hill added, >"Receiving this award is better than winning an Oscar!"

RFB&D is a national nonprofit organization where volunteers record audio textbooks for students from Kindergarten through graduate school and beyond, who have vision, physical or learning disabilities. RFB&D-LA has 500 volunteers in three local recording studios located in Hollywood, Reseda and Redondo Beach. RFB&D-LA serves 2,300 students in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
