RFB&D-LA ANNOUNCES WEINGART GRANT TO BENEFIT
SEVEN FILLMORE SCHOOLS
Los Angeles, California, May 10, 2007 - FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE -
Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic-Los Angeles (RFB&D-LA)
is pleased to announce that they have received a $90,000 grant
from the Weingart Foundation to benefit underserved students with
disabilities through RFB&D-LA's Adopt-A-District Program.
The schools in Fillmore that will receive assistance are: Sespe
Elementary, Mountain Vista Elementary, San Cayetano Elementary,
Piru Elementary, Fillmore Middle School, Fillmore High School
and Fillmore Community High School. Each school will receive up
to 50 audio textbooks on CD, a minimum of four specialized CD
players, along with on-site and ongoing training from RFB&D-LA's
Educational Outreach Department. RFB&D-LA has made a commitment
to open houses and community events along with the trainings.
May open houses include Piru Elementary and Fillmore High school
on 5/15, Fillmore Middle School on 5/16 and Mountain Vista Elementary
School on 5/17.
RFB&D is a national nonprofit organization that has a library
of more than 115,000 audio textbooks for students with vision
impairment, physical disabilities or learning disabilities. RFB&D-LA
serves more than 2,900 students in the Los Angeles area. The organization's
membership is comprised of students in kindergarten through graduate
school, as well as working professionals who find it difficult-or
impossible-to read printed material.
The Weingart Foundation focuses its grant making on programs
that address the needs of the underserved and the general community.
It supports a variety of health, education, arts & culture,
and human services programs in Southern California, and is one
of the major private foundations in the United States.
