Ms. Helen Thorpe, wife of Mayor John Hickenlooper, was Honorary Chairperson of the "Second Annual Colorado Authors Lend Their Voices to Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic"

Helen Thorpe

On Sept. 7, 2006, 55 Colorado authors, including Ms. Helen Thorpe (pictured, left), best-selling author Marne Kellog, former Governor Dick Lamm, Denver Poet Laureate Chris Ransick, Debra Fine, Dick Kreck of the Denver Post, Colorado Book Award winners Carol Berg and Bill Tremblay and Colorado Book Award Finalist Cate Wiley, visited the Rocky Mountain Unit of Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D) to lend their voices to record textbooks for students of all ages who are blind, visually impaired, dyslexic or physically challenged.

Colorado authors recorded Tom Noel's "Colorado: A History", and adopted by First Lady Frances Owens, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the RFB&D studio located at 1355 S. Colorado Blvd., Building C, Suite 406.

The public and media were invited to stop by the studio and watch Colorado authors and RFB&D volunteers in action, reading from our eight digital recording booths. RFB&D is the only nonprofit organization in the country recording textbooks for students of all ages who are blind, print impaired or physically challenged.

The Rocky Mountain Unit of RFB&D is celebrating our 55th Anniversary of service this year. RFB&D serves over 150,000 students with over 109,000 different textbooks.

If you would like to volunteer or donate to RFB&D, please contact Betsy Boudreau at betsyrfbd@qwest.net, or call 303-757-0787.
