You have given so much to RFB&D in South Carolina and as we reflect, we are truly awed! We want to sing, dance and pay tribute to you! From our Outreach Volunteers – Elizabeth McKown, Trevor Foster, Teresea Mathis, and Lisa McClain, to our Production Volunteers, Donors, Board Members, those who were Table Captains at our 2008 Luncheon and to each classroom teacher who implemented RFB&D... a simple thank you does not begin to express our sincere gratitude. We dedicate this newsletter to you!

Andrew, a tech savvy 6th grader at North Myrtle Beach Middle, has really enjoyed his association with RFB&D. He knows as much about the equipment and its operation as the teachers and takes pride in his knowledge of RFB&D. He will tell you the equipment and books on CD have made his progression in the 6th grade notable. Andrew uses RFB&D regularly while in school and also participated in the MP3 player test launch. He has been able to listen to the books at home which helped him with homework and personal growth. Andrew is a fun loving student with a print disability and has been able to grow as a student and a person with the help of caring teachers and RFB&D.

Tori is a student at Crayton Middle School in Richland School District One. She told us, “I love using RFB&D’s CDs because I am able to understand what I am reading. I am visually impaired and hearing my books being read helps me with my reading assignments. When Ms. Bundy taught me how to use the playback equipment, I thought it was easy to find a specific page or move up a chapter or make the reader read faster. Now, I am a real ‘pro’ at using the playback equipment. I love to use it and it helps me with my school assignments.”

Without you, our students would still be struggling to read. Because of you, we have more than tripled the number of students served since opening a state RFB&D office. And because you are a friend of RFB&D, we will continue to reach and serve even more students in our quest of reaching all 55,200.

The quantitative measurable outcomes from school year 2007-08 are pouring in. Data indicate that students are increasing their grade level reading and are making remarkable academic gains. Many thanks to the South Carolina Lions, Central Carolina Community Foundation, Hilton Head Island Foundation, Lipscomb Family Foundation, Mary Black Foundation, Northwestern Mutual Foundation, Self Family Foundation, South Carolina Budget and Control Board, Spartanburg County Foundation, Womens Club of Columbia, and Waccamaw Foundation as well as our individual donors and corporate sponsors... without your support pages of books would remain closed.

William Penn stated, “I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

What can we do individually and collectively today as we pass through this world? You can help a child to learn through listening! Please continue to be a friend to RFB&D; “Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.” As we celebrate our successes, “Allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise, and love. It is there for each and every one of us!”

With the students in mind,
