UPLAND RFB&D STUDIO VOLUNTEERS WILL READ FOR SOUP!

Preparing to Celebrate Different Ways to Read Across America with Record-A-Thon

Upland, California, 2/17/09 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -
Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic-Southern California's (RFB&D-SoCal's) Upland Studio, 1844 West Eleventh St., Unit C, will have its eye on the economy, while celebrating a national day about reading for children. Monday, March 2nd will kick off their 17th Annual Record-A-Thon with a soup kitchen for their hard-working recording volunteers, headed by Production Supervisor Sherry Weekes. Signs posted around the studio state, "Will Read for Soup!" While March 2nd is national Read Across America Day, RFB&D-SoCal will use its Record-A-Thon to bring awareness to reading and learning differences in people with vision impairments and learning disabilities like dyslexia, with Different Ways to Read Across America Day! Record-A-Thon's goals are for the volunteers to record more critically needed textbooks, to raise money for programs, and to raise awareness for reading disabilities and the need for more volunteers. The Record-A-Thon kickoff opens a week where the volunteers try to fill all the recording booths every day so more audio textbooks on CDs and downloadable MP3's get into the hands of students with disabilities who desperately need them to succeed in school.

RFB&D is a unique national nonprofit organization whose volunteers record audio textbooks for students of all ages with vision, physical and learning disabilities, offering their services for more than 60 years. RFB&D-SoCal serves nearly 6,400 students with print disabilities in the Southern California area, with recording studios in Upland, Santa Ana/Tustin, Hollywood, Redondo Beach and Reseda. For information, call Sherry Weekes at (909) 949-4316 and visit their website at www.rfbd.org/SoCal.
