MISSION:
- Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D) is a national nonprofit
organization serving students from kindergarten through postgraduate

learning disability by providing them with textbooks and educational
materials in accessible formats.
SERVICES:
- RFB&D offers both free and low cost fee-based memberships to serve
the unique needs of our student members.
- All educational facilities are requested to participate in RFB&D's
Learning Through Listening® Institutional Membership, which eliminate
all fees to the individual student ordering their books through the
institution.
- A registered member may request any of the nearly 47,000 digitally
recorded AudioPlus CDs and downloadable AudioAccess files available
from RFB&D's national library in Princeton, New Jersey.
- If a title is not available in the library, the member can request
that the book be recorded.
BACKGROUND:
- Recording for the Blind (RFB) was founded in 1948 by Anne T. Macdonald
as a nonprofit organization dedicated to aiding blinded World War II
veterans returning to school under the G. I. Bill of Rights.
- The organization's local roots began in Los Angeles in 1951 under
the sponsorship of the Junior League, and in 1962 branched out again
to the Inland Empire and Orange County areas.
- Through the years, it became clear that individuals with physical
and/or learning disabilities could also achieve success with these programs.
On July 1, 1995, the national organization officially changed the name
to Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D).
- In 2009, the Los Angles and IE/OC branches officially merged to become
RFB&D-Southern California Unit.
ORGANIZATION:
- RFB&D-Southern California Unit has approximately 700 volunteers
trained by paid staff to produce recordings in all academic fields.

administrative and production staff members.

textbooks are available on AudioPlus CD and now also available in downloadable
