LOCAL STUDENT WHO IS BLIND WILL EMCEE NONPROFIT'S LUNCHEON

Community Comes Together for RFB&D's "Unlocking Learning" Event in Upland

Upland, California, March 13, 2009 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -
Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic-Southern California (RFB&D-SoCal) will hold its annual free luncheon/fundraising event, "Unlocking Learning," on Thursday, April 2nd at exactly 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. at the Carnegie Historic Library, 123 East "D" Street, Upland, CA 91786. Seating is limited; the public is welcome; RSVP required, to Rdudka@rfbd.org or call 909 949-4316 x103. 18-year-old Claremont resident Jason Gross, who is vision impaired, will be the Master of Ceremonies. Gross had the world of education opened for him, upon discovering RFB&D's audio textbooks during his early days at Claremont High School. Jason now attends Citrus College, and intends to become a marriage and family therapist, while continuing his daily use of RFB&D's audio textbooks.

Local community leaders will host tables for the event, so that their friends and others may experience their passion for RFB&D-an organization that helps give student members like Henry Vasquez of Los Angeles, "…a second chance at life." Some of the "Table Captains" include: Dr. Ann Johannsen, co-proprietor of Claremont Optometry; Chino resident Mary Ellen Stan, chair of RFB&D-SoCal's board, and retired from PFF Bank and Trust; and Claremont resident Pat Hauducoeur, proprietor of Pat's Bookkeeping Service, and also an active member of Claremont Noon Rotary Club.

RFB&D is a unique organization that utilizes all volunteers to record textbooks and other educational materials for students of all ages who are vision impaired, physically disabled or have learning disabilities like dyslexia. RFB&D-Southern California has five recording studios in Upland, Santa Ana/Tustin, Hollywood, Reseda, and Redondo Beach. For further information, log on to www.rfbd.org/SoCal.
