Volunteering at RFB&D"Without being able to read, life even today can be very limiting. Thus, spending even a few hours a week helping others to learn and accomplish more in life is definitely worth it." - Lily Rosa, Studio Volunteer RFB&D would not be possible without the support of its volunteers, which help with audio textbook production, development, and the educational outreach program. All volunteers begin by attending a Learning Through Listening® Hour, held regularly at the Texas studio conference room. Please visit our Join Us for a Tour page to view the next tour dates. Our Studio Director, Justin Czimskey, is available to speak to groups about our volunteer opportunities. He also attends volunteer fairs and corporate recruiting events. If you are interested in such a visit, please e-mail Justin at jczimskey@rfbd.org. Studio VolunteersVolunteering can be a very rewarding endeavor, and the Southwest Region currently has over 275 regular studio volunteers. Currently, the number one need in the studio is for post-production/quality control volunteers. On-site training is provided for this task. Volunteers perform every step in the audio production process-from setting
up textbooks to operating recording equipment to reading and to quality
control checking. If you have any areas of expertise, knowledge or study,
we are particularly searching for 'specialty' readers, reading in subject
areas that could include foreign languages, calculus, chemistry, law,
and medicine. We are currently looking for math and elementary math readers. New Math Summit Google Group for Studio Math ReadersBased on feedback from our April 2008 Math Reader Summit, all approved math readers at our unit can now become part of the Google Group on-line community "RFBD Austin Math."Members can view and start discussion threads on math reading conventions, particular math problems and other related math events in our studio. Members can upload and have access to files and other resources in this group. Once approved a math reader can sign up for this group at : http://groups.google.com/group/rfbd-austin-math View the studio volunteer schedule Studio Volunteer Archived Tips Volunteer Handbook (Word Version) Ambassadors CouncilOutreach CommitteesOutreach Ambassadors help with our Educational Outreach program by passing out information to schools.
