Getting Started

Training

As a new volunteer, you first learn the computer-based process of digital audio recording, both through observation and through hands-on training. Most trainees master this process after two to five two-hour sessions. Photo of Volunteer Reading

We strongly suggest that you complete your training within as short a time as possible to maintain momentum while you are learning. No prior recording background is necessary.

Becoming a Reader

Once you have learned how to operate the recording equipment, you will then be given the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to read for people with print disabilities. Not all volunteers choose to become readers. As a volunteer, you select the schedule that works best for you. All of our recording sessions are two hours in length, and we hope that you can give us two hours per week (but we can be flexible).
