Volunteer Opportunities at the Santa Barbara Unit

There are several roles that our volunteers play in making education accessible to students with disabilities. These roles include:

Recording Volunteers

Outreach Volunteers

Adminstrative Volunteers

Recording Volunteers

The Santa Barbara Unit is always seeking new readers. If you enjoy reading aloud, we hope that you will consider joining our dedicated corps of studio volunteers, a very special group of professionals, retirees and students who represent a diverse group of ages, occupations and educational backgrounds.

Photo of volunteers in booth What they do have in common is their appreciation of this unique opportunity to share their knowledge and creativity, to learn new skills, to enjoy the camaraderie of other dedicated people, and to give something valuable to those who cannot use standard print.

We especially have a critical need for specialist readers, who have backgrounds in science, math, technology, medicine, law, and other similar fields.

We train all of our volunteers in our Santa Barbara studio. Our volunteers record textbooks in every imaginable subject area and in doing so, serve more than 100,000 students with print disabilities around the world. Because our consumers' need for these texts is acute and growing, your skills, energy and enthusiasm are needed and welcome. Photo of Volunteer Roger Harder

Outreach Volunteers

The Santa Barbara Unit also seeks volunteers to help in its efforts to provide educational support to local schools and students through its educational outreach program. We need volunteer customer service representatives to contact and provide assistance to schools and individual RFB&D members.

Administrative Volunteers

The Santa Barbara Unit also needs the services of administrative volunteers, who assist the staff in preparation of mailings for fundraising and volunteer programs, data entry and general office work.
