AT INT'L COMMUNICATOR AWARDS
Persistence Pays off for
Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic®
Princeton, NJ (April 14, 2003)-The national
headquarters of Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D®)
received a Crystal Award of Excellence in the international Communicator
Awards competition for its 2002 Annual Report, Profiles in
Persistence.
RFB&D is
the nation's leading provider of recorded textbooks for students
of all ages with disabilities such as visual impairment or a learning
disability. Profiles in Persistence features essays on seven RFB&D
members or supporters whose own persistence helped them endure
and overcome incredible challenges or hardships, and led them
to incredible victory and success.
Among the profiles
in the annual report are RFB&D members Erik
Weihenmayer, who is the first person who is blind to summit
Mount Everest, and Michael Hingson,
who together with his guide dog Roselle, negotiated 78 flights
of stairs and escaped to safety from the north tower of the World
Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
Entrants in
the Communicator Awards are judged by their peers who look for
companies and individuals whose work serves as a benchmark for
the industry. There were nearly 4,000 entries in this year's Print
Media Competition.
"The annual
report documents for our supporters and stakeholders the impact
of their philanthropy," said RFB&D senior publication
editor Diane Blaszka. "What better way to convey the importance
of their giving than to have our members speak for themselves
about the doors that RFB&D opened for them. Profiles in Persistence
allows our donors to feel as though they had a role in these stories
of groundbreaking achievement and courage."
In addition
to the Crystal Award, RFB&D also received the Communicator
Award of Distinction for its Impact newsletter, and honorable
mention for elements of an internal communications and promotional
plan.
