Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic Goes Digital With support from National Starch and Chemical Company
Princeton, NJ - Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D) is switching its extensive library and recording process to digital technology with support from the National Starch and Chemical Company Foundation, which has announced a $4,000 donation to support that transition.
"We introduced digital technology last fall with 6,000 books," says Elizabeth Danner of RFB&D, "and by December 2003 we will be finished with the roll-out." According to Danner, RFB&D's volunteer force of more than 5,300 readers at 32 recording studios through the U.S. added more than 4,000 titles to its library in 2002. "These readers are specialists who have passed mastery tests in their subjects," she explains. Danner adds that RFB&D is also conducting an innovative educational outreach initiative. "We're bringing our services directly into schools to train teachers and students how to best use our recorded textbooks," she explains.
National Starch and Chemical Company, a member of the ICI Group, is headquartered in Bridgewater, NJ, and is a worldwide manufacturer of adhesives, specialty synthetic polymers, electronic and engineering materials, and specialty industrial and food starches, with 2002 sales of $2.97 billion. This donation is part of the company's commitment to support the communities in which it operates.
