FOR THE BLIND & DYSLEXIC® RECEIVES ANOTHER
PRSA/NJ PYRAMID AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN PUBLIC RELATIONS
June 9, 2005 (Princeton, NJ) - Recording
for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D®) has been honored
with a 2005 Pyramid Award for excellence in public relations from
the New Jersey Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America
(PRSA/NJ). RFB&D, a nonprofit organization, is the nation's
educational library of recorded textbooks for students with visual
impairment, dyslexia or other physical disabilities that make
reading standard textbooks difficult or impossible.
The awards were presented to RFB&D at the 15th
annual Pyramid Awards banquet held at Highlawn Pavilion in West
Orange on June 8. Accepting on behalf of RFB&D and its Strategic
Communications Department were Creative Director Diane Blaszka
and Multimedia Design Editor Noreen Braman. This year, the RFB&D
creative team also captured Communicator Awards for the organization's
Interactive Training Tool and 2004 Annual Report and companion
CD as well as the competition's highest honor, the Crystal Award
of Excellence, for its Teacher's Training Kit.
"The work that RFB&D does every day to
assist students and others in reading and learning is incredibly
inspiring," said Blaszka. "It's a pleasure and honor
to receive such prestigious awards. They help us to confirm that
the communications vehicles we work hard to create and distribute
tell the RFB&D story and mission in an interesting and effective
way."
According to Doug Fenichel, APR, president of PRSA/NJ,
"The award winners represent a sampling of the tremendous
value public relations practitioners bring to the organizations
they counsel. From increasing sales to weathering crises, Pyramid
Award winners - in fact, all of the entrants - demonstrate the
different ways public relations helps an organization protect
and enhance its brand."
RFB&D serves more
than 137,000 students from kindergarten through graduate school
and beyond with its
one-of-a-kind collection of more than 104,000 educational titles
on CD or four-track cassette. RFB&D's AudioPlus® digitally
recorded textbooks on CD provide unprecedented navigation, ease
of use and proven effectiveness as learning tools for students
with print disabilities. Students rely on RFB&D's unique accommodation
to access the printed page and to achieve educational success.
All of RFB&D's accessible titles are recorded by volunteers
working in 29 RFB&D recording studios nationwide.
With more than 400 members, the New Jersey chapter
of PRSA was founded in 1960 and represents business and industry,
counseling firms, government, associations, hospitals, schools,
professional services firms and nonprofit organizations.
