FOR THE BLIND & DYSLEXIC® NAMES INLAND EMPIRE EDUCATION
ADMINISTRATOR TO ITS NATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS
National nonprofit elects Stephen Siegel of Pomona to three-year
term
January 23, 2006 (Upland, CA) - Stephen M.
Siegel, Associate Director of Development of Annual Giving at
Claremont McKenna College, has been elected to a three-year term
on the National Board of Directors of Recording for the Blind
& Dyslexic (RFB&D®). RFB&D, a nonprofit organization,
is the nation's educational library of recorded textbooks for
students with visual impairment, dyslexia or other physical disabilities
that make reading standard textbooks difficult or impossible.
Siegel, of Pomona, CA, has previously served as
Chair of RFB&D's Inland Empire/Orange County Unit, and continues
to serve on that board as a member of the Executive Committee
and as Chair of the Human Resources Committee. As Chair, he led
the unit in an effort to convert audio textbook production from
analog to digital, resulting in a successful grant proposal in
conjunction with the Los Angeles Unit of RFB&D funded by the
W.M. Keck Foundation.
"I am honored to join RFB&D's National
Board," says Siegel, "and I look forward to helping
RFB&D level the playing field for students who require our
accommodation in order to have equal access to print."
"RFB&D's National
Board has made an excellent choice in Steve," says RFB&D
Inland Empire/Orange County Unit Executive Director Mike Davis.
"He has worked tirelessly in support of, not only our local
unit, but the entire
organization - making numerous trips to RFB&D Headquarters
in Princeton, New Jersey, or wherever his talents and expertise
have been needed."
In addition to his duties at RFB&D, Siegel is
a veteran education administrator, having served at Claremont
McKenna College and Wheaton College (Norton, MA) and promoting
those institutions to their respective alumni, parents and friends.
He is also past President of the Drucker Alumni Association and
is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Carden Arbor View
School in Upland, CA. Siegel also co-founded a marketing and strategy
consultancy specializing in pharmaceutical, medical device and
health care supply chain with clients throughout the United States.
His first fundraising position was with the House Ear Institute,
a medical research organization engaged in innovative research
to treat and prevent deafness and hearing loss.
A 1987 graduate of Claremont McKenna College with
an Economics-Accounting major, Siegel later earned his MBA from
the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management
(Drucker School) at Claremont Graduate University, where he studied
with the late Peter F. Drucker and specialized in marketing with
an emphasis on educational management.
RFB&D serves more than 141,000 students from
kindergarten through graduate school and beyond, including 11,575
in California, with its one-of-a-kind collection of more than
109,000 educational titles on CD or four-track cassette. RFB&D's
AudioPlus® digitally recorded textbooks on CD provide unprecedented
navigation, ease of use and proven effectiveness as learning tools
for students with print disabilities. Students rely on RFB&D's
unique accommodation to access the printed page and to achieve
educational success. All of RFB&D's accessible titles are
recorded by volunteers working in 29 recording studios nationwide,
including Upland and Santa Ana, CA.
