RECORDING FOR THE BLIND & DYSLEXIC®
HONORED WITH PLATINUM AWARD
RFB&D's Institutional Membership Teacher's Guide receives
top honors
November 3, 2004 (Princeton, NJ) -
pRecording for the Blind
& Dyslexic (RFB&D®) has been honored with a prestigious
Platinum Award from the League of American Communications Professionals
(LACP) in recognition of RFB&D's Learning Through Listening®
Institutional Membership Teacher's Guide.
The Teacher's Guide scored 99 out of a possible
100 points in judging areas such as narrative, visual design,
creativity, message clarity and relevance - ranking it #1 in the
category of "Print: Toolkits, Mailers and Related."
In addition, the publication finished second among the entire
competition's more than 850 submissions and the LACP's "Top
100 Publicity Materials of 2004."
The colorful and innovative binder produced by RFB&D and
project vendor Pequod Communications includes items that teachers
can immediately put to use with students using RFB&D's audio
textbooks as an accommodation. It includes program information,
checklists, graphic organizers, a classroom poster and RFB&D's
interactive Audiobook Training Tool (ATT) and companion CD.
"The goal of creating a support tool for educators was shared
by many individuals at RFB&D, and it came to fruition through
a lot of brainstorming, hard work and cooperation between departments,"
said RFB&D President & CEO John Kelly. "We are truly
proud of what we created, and this level of recognition is greatly
appreciated."
LACP also gave a Bronze Award, Honors and Top 100 recognition
to RFB&D's The Magic of Digital Recording 2003 annual
report and bestowed Honors on the This is RFB&D brochure.
Earlier this year, RFB&D's communications team also earned
the coveted gold Jasper Award from the Jersey Shore Public Relations
and Advertising Association (JSPRAA) for RFB&D's external
newsletter, RFB&D Impact. Additional honors for RFB&D's
annual report and other publications included an APEX award from
Communications Concepts, Inc.; an award of distinction from Communicator
Awards; and an honorable mention from the New Jersey Chapter of
the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA/NJ).
RFB&D, a nonprofit organization based in Princeton, NJ, serves
more than 137,000 members of all ages with a one-of-a-kind library
of 100,000 recorded textbooks on CD and four-track cassette. Students
with disabilities that make reading text challenging or impossible
rely on RFB&D's unique accommodation to access the printed
page and to achieve educational success.
All of RFB&D's accessible titles are recorded by volunteers
working in 28 RFB&D recording studios nationwide.
Established in 2001, the San Diego-based League of American Communications
Professionals (LACP) encourages excellence in the practice of
communications for corporations, small businesses, nonprofit organizations,
educational institutions and government entities. Its quarterly
award competitions attract entries from organizations around the
world, including Fortune 500 companies.
