RECORDING FOR THE BLIND & DYSLEXIC® SPONSORS AWARDS FOR
OUTSTANDING STUDENTS WITH PRINT DISABILITIES
October 22, 2004 (Princeton, NJ) Recording for
the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D®) announced its 2005
National Achievement Awards (NAA) program - an annual competition
for college seniors with visual impairments and high school
seniors with learning disabilities.
RFB&D's Mary P. Oenslager Scholastic Achievement Awards (SAA)
are given annually to nine blind or visually impaired seniors
at four-year US colleges or universities. The Marion Huber Learning
Through Listening® (LTL®) awards are presented annually
to six high school seniors with learning disabilities. Awards
total more than $50,000. The top three winners in each category
are recognized at an annual RFB&D celebratory event, and previous
winners have also been honored by the president at the White House.
The NAA program is open to active RFB&D members who have
been registered for at least one year prior to the March 1, 2005
deadline - either individually or through their school. They should
be prepared to demonstrate outstanding scholarship, leadership,
enterprise and service to others. Applications are now available.
For more than 50 years, RFB&D, a nonprofit volunteer organization,
has served people of all ages who cannot read standard print effectively
because of visual impairment, dyslexia or other physical disability.
RFB&D maintains a library of 100,000 recorded textbooks produced
by volunteers working in 28 RFB&D studios across the country.
Last year, RFB&D circulated close to a quarter of a million
titles among its more than 137,000 members.
