RECORDING FOR THE BLIND & DYSLEXIC®
RECEIVES PRSA/NJ PYRAMID AWARD FOR "BUILDING CONFIDENCE
BUILDING LIVES" VIDEO
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 6, 2006 (Princeton, NJ) - Recording
for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D®) has been honored
with a 2006 Pyramid Award from the New Jersey Chapter of the Public
Relations Society of America (PRSA/NJ) for its highly successful
fundraising video, Building Confidence ... Building Lives.
RFB&D, a nonprofit organization, is the nation's educational
library of recorded textbooks for students with visual impairment,
dyslexia or other physical disabilities that make reading standard
textbooks difficult or impossible.
The award was presented to RFB&D at PRSA/NJ's
16th annual Pyramid Awards banquet held at the Highlawn Pavilion
in West Orange on June 7. Accepting on behalf of RFB&D and
its Strategic Communications Department were RFB&D's Design
Editor Noreen Braman and Jeff Wertz of MultiMedia Video, which
produced the 11-minute video that has, to date, raised more than
$800,000 in new pledges at RFB&D fundraising events.
"The production of this video was a rewarding
and emotional experience for all involved," says Braman.
"There has been an overwhelmingly positive reaction from
both within the organization and from the viewers who have been
moved by the story's powerful message. Building Confidence
... Building Lives has been a major boost to public awareness
of RFB&D and to our goal of reaching one million students
with print disabilities who could benefit from RFB&D's services."
Building Confidence ... Building Lives features
the dramatic and emotional success stories of three RFB&D
members: Nick Esposito, Tracy Johnson and Cooper Alexander. In
addition to telling the story of how each of these outstanding
young people has coped with a print disability, the video shows
their respective transformations from struggle to success after
being introduced to RFB&D and audio textbooks.
"We congratulate the winners of the Pyramid
Awards, who represent the best in the field of communications
in the state and country," said Doug Fenichel, APR, president
of PRSA/NJ. "The 2006 class of award winners represents an
incredible array of work, reinforcing the tremendous value of
public relations in helping an organization raise awareness and
build and protect its brand."
With more than 250 members, the New Jersey chapter
of PRSA was founded in 1960 and represents business and industry,
counseling firms, government, associations, hospitals, schools,
professional services firms and nonprofit organizations.
RFB&D serves more than 141,000 students from
kindergarten through graduate school and beyond with its one-of-a-kind
collection of more than 109,000 recorded educational titles. RFB&D's
AudioPlus® digitally recorded textbooks on CD provide unprecedented
navigation, ease of use and proven effectiveness as learning tools
for students with print disabilities. Students rely on RFB&D's
unique accommodation to access the printed page and to achieve
educational success. All of RFB&D's accessible titles are
