The Southeast Region is gearing up for their third annual Retrobash, with Best '70s Costume, Dance Contests and more to beheld January 23, 2010 at the Holiday Inn in Chapel Hill.

The past two annual events have been thoroughly enjoyed by retro-clad party-goers. The Retrobash's committee of hardworking volunteers is led by North Carolina Board Chair Valerie Williams, taking care of every detail.

The good times are being made possible by IBM, along with other sponsors that include Time Out Restaurant and Sports Bar, Kalos Gold, SunTrust Bank, and BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina. For further information or to purchase a ticket, contact Eleanor Boyd at eboyd@rfbd.org.

The Spirit of Giving

Embodying the spirit of giving back at holiday time, an anonymous donor with a vision-impaired child "goes the extra mile" to help an RFB&D recording studio in the region.

More than two years ago, RFB&D Southeast Regional Executive Director Lenora Martin received a generous check from a donor, and wanted to thank him in person. She subsequently discovered that he was a new volunteer, reading law books for three hours a week, while driving 90 miles each way to report for "duty"!

Lenora discovered that this committed donor, who prefers to remain anonymous, has a child who is vision-impaired and uses RFB&D's audiobooks to excel in school.

This selfless volunteer and donor later agreed to join the board, and then doubled the size of his original gift to RFB&D!

Lenora, along with RFB&D's student members, is extremely grateful for this role model exemplifying the spirit of giving back.

Trike Shoppe,LLC Fundraiser

Photo of Steve DoroghaziSteve Doroghazi, who sits on both our local Florida and Southeast Regional Boards, is also one of our former members. Steve and his wife, Cynthia Paddock Doroghazi, who is a volunteer at our Boca Raton, Florida studio, are on a mission to give back. In furtherance of their goal, Cynthia, who also owns and operates Trike Shoppe, LLC (a Fort Lauderdale, FL bicycle shop that specializes in the sale and service of recumbent trikes, adult tricycles and electric trikes and bikes), will donate an electric bike or recumbent trike (the choice is yours), to Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic. Their desire is for RFB&D to utilize this gift for fundraising purposes.

Consequently, beginning right now, and until 500 tickets are sold, RFB&D, with Steve and Cynthia's help, will begin selling raffle tickets at $5.00 per ticket. Purchasers of tickets not only will have an opportunity to win a trike or bike (of the winner's choice), but, Trike Shoppe, LLC will include a $15.00 gift certificate which, when redeemed at the store or online, will result in an additional donation of five percent of sales to RFB&D, exclusive of tax and shipping.

To learn more about Steve Doroghazi's favorite charity and this very unique raffle or to purchase a ticket and receive your personalized RFBD Trike Shoppe, LLC gift certificate, please visit the Trike Shoppe website.

Your kind generosity is most appreciated in this critical time of need for RFB&D. Without your volunteer efforts and financial support, folks just like Steve would not have the right to education, a belief held sacred by our founder, Anne T. Macdonald.

Local Lions Continue to Roar!

RFB&D-Southeast (AL, FL, GA, MS, NC, SC, TN) is grateful to the local South Carolina Lions Club for their continued support over the years, and also thanks the South Carolina University Greek Organization for a successful Corn Hole Tournament!

RFB&D-Southeast has a years-long alliance with the South Carolina Lions Club - their former state director, Libby Ann Inabinet, began the connection through her "Lion father," while "Lion Phil Marret" now sits on the RFB&D-South Carolina's Board of Directors.

The Lions continue as loyal donors to RFB&D-South Carolina. Area Director Tina Winchip enjoys attending their local meetings and even the Lions state conventions. She very much appreciates their assistance to RFB&D as part of their support of "sight programs and services" for individuals who are visually impaired.

RFB&D-Southeast also wants to thank the University of South Carolina for their partnership with the successful Corn-Hole Tournament, and hopes to make it an annual event!

As part of the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce's
Boca Festival Days, on August 1st, the Palm Beach County studio hosted

Boca Appreciation Day Open House presented by Jeffrey Tockman and Ameriprise

Boca Festival Days logoWe were honored to have Mayor Susan Whelchel at our Open House to do a little guest reading and accept a plaque acknowledging the City of Boca Raton's support of RFB&D. And we were thrilled that nearly 100 people, formerly unacquainted with RFB&D, dropped by for a visit . In fact, thirty of our visitors indicated that they might like to become a regular part of our volunteer program!

A very special thank you to the following businesses and individuals for their kind contributions to this event.
